The NetworkCycle RoutesThe National Cycle Network routes form the backbone of the network and the Sustrans Rangers work hard to maintain them. Sustrans have a map showing their routes in the Derby area. Derby is fairly flat and there are lots of quieter back street routes. Our map of Derby shows cycle ways and quiet routes that can be used now, as well as the routes we are campaigning for. The map costs just £1, and can be purchased here. The map is getting old (1998) but is still very useful. Also available is the City Council's map, FREE from the Tourist Information Centre in the Market Square. MaintenanceDerby CityWithin Derby City boundaries all highway maintenance issues as they may affect cyclists (eg potholes, inadequate/failed lighting) are handled by Street Care on Tel. 01332 715000 or email: streetcare@derby.gov.uk. Further contact details here DerbyshireFor highway maintenance issues within the county of Derbyshire, but outside Derby city, report to Call Derbyshire on 0845 6058058 or email: call.centre@derbyshire.gov.uk . Further details here Free parkingOur survey on a summer Saturday found loads of cycle parking in Derby City Centre. It is fairly well used at the points where cyclists hit the City (eg East Street, the Spot), but there's lots more space further in (eg St Peter's Street, Victoria Street). Further afieldHere's cycle carriage information for National Rail, plus tram and ferry operators in UK. The site also has comprehensive list of folding bikes. |
